claims a spectacular business location in affluent Oakland County. The important Michigan Highway M-24 bisects
Oxford, leading directly to Interstate 69 and the nearby
cities of Pontiac,
Flint
and Port
Huron. M-24 then links to Interstate 75 and the
mammoth metropolis of Detroit,
just 32 miles to the south.
Oakland County boasts some of the highest rankings in
the U.S.
The region's businesses employ 13% of Michigan's entire
population. Found here are 35% of the Global Fortune 500
companies, including headquarters for General
Motors, Daimler
Chrysler, K-Mart
and the Lear
Corporation. For counties containing more than one
million residents, and County ranks second in annual
per-capita income.
The township of Oxford showed a median household
income of over $63,000, more than $20,000 above the
national average. Census
2000 recorded Oxford's population as just over
16,000. Within the township is the Village
of Oxford, covering one square mild within the
center and including the Downtown and Central Business
Districts. Oxford Village is home to 3,540 residents.
Oxford, MI retains a homey, quaint atmosphere, while
keeping up with all the modern amenities available.
Downtown contains many unique shops and specialty
boutiques. A number of fine restaurants feed the
townspeople. A six-screen movie theater and a state of
the art library provide the best in entertainment and
learning. Oxford became designated a Main Street Oakland County Community in 2004, in response
to the town's revitalization work in the historic
Downtown District.
Oxford residents celebrate their home with a variety
of festivals. February's Oxford
Groundhog Festival stars Harley the Groundhog and
restaurants serve piping hot cups of hot chocolate while
he predicts the spring's weather. The Hot
Blues and Barbecue in June is the site of the
Detroit Blues Challenge Kickoff. Celebrate Oxford
happens in August and the fall brings the Oxford
Scarecrow Festival. Local artists perform free live
concerts in Centennial Park each Thursday during warm
weather.
